Vineyards

We cultivate a total of 25 hectares of vineyards, each with an average age of 35 years, half of which we own with the rest being managed through long term production contracts.

The biggest vineyard of the estate is located within the Castle’s walled estate and is known as “El Cerrado” or “the enclosed one.” It has a surface area of 7.5 hectares and was planted in 1970.

The other vineyards are smaller and all under a hectare in size. The area of “El Monte” is worth particular mention as its vineyards are over a hundred years old.

The variety grown is Tempranillo; the vines are head-pruned in bush style and are planted in narrow rows.

The soils are poor; there is an abundance of alluvial soil and boulders.

Vineyard cultivation is respectful with its environment so that the wines reflect the land’s characteristics at much as possible. The cultural practices undertaken, pruning, canopy management, fruit thinning etc., are all aimed at producing the best quality grapes.
